"Full Circle For Former Wexford Raider & Back-To-Back NCAA Champion Troy Kahler..."

The Scarborough Wexford Raiders are happy to announce the addition of Troy Kahler as the new Head Coach and General Manager for the up and coming 2019-2020.  The Raiders inked the deal with the 2 time NCAA Hockey Champion today, June 5th, which also falls on his 40th birthday.

Kahler has played & coached at every level of the sport and traveled the world throughout his hockey career.

Growing up playing his AAA & Jr A in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), also known as 'the hockey hotbed of the World', Kahler participated in the Under 17 Hockey Canada Program playing for Team Ontario.

With that valuable experience and the exposure of playing in the GTA in-front of NCAA & OHL scouts, Kahler obtained a Division I Full Athletic Scholarship to the University of Michigan, and while at the same time, was chosen 31st Overall (2nd Round) by the Sarnia Sting in the Ontario Hockey League Priority Selection Draft.  Academics were a priority for Susan & Glenn Kahler's son, so he chose the route of US Colleges and the University of Michigan.

During his playing career Kahler has picked up his fair share of hardware including 2 NCAA National Championships with the University of Michigan ('98) and University of Maine (99) as a transfer.

Kahler holds one NCAA record that will be difficult for anyone to break, he was  'The Only Player In NCAA History To Win Back-To-Back NCAA Men's Ice Hockey Championships On Two Separate Teams'.

Troy has also been a Fitness & Condition Coach, Player/Coach, Head Coach, Owner and President of multiple successful semi-professional franchises with 3 EHL Cups (IIHF) Championships in his final 6 seasons of play ending last season in 2018.  In addition to his one-ice expertise, Troy's longevity in the game stems solely from his passion for health and wellness as he holds a diploma in Sport & Exercise Nutrition.

To top it all off, he and his fiance (Francesca Ortepi) Co-Founded The Academy Of Hockey (https://www.theacademyofhockey.com) in Richmond Hill, ON, a passion project for the two 'that gives public access to affordable private hockey academy programming and professional sports services'.  The program includes On-Ice Professional Coaching, Off-Ice Fitness, Conditioning & Yoga For Hockey, Standardized OHL/NCAA/NHL Combine Testing, Sports Nutrition & Hockey Theory Classroom Education, as well as Sport/Life Coaching for individuals, small groups as well as on-site team training.  They train young elite athletes ages ranging 6-20 yrs old.

Raiders ownership believes Coach Kahler's expertise is perfectly tailored to elevate team skill on and off the ice this season from day one.  His on-ice professional development program focuses on real game situation breakdowns and the essential skill elements needed to perform those skills at high performance speed.  Power skating, stick handling and puck control, passing foundations, shooting fundamentals and scoring dynamics are all key elements to game play.  Each element is paired with on-ice evaluations to create truly dynamic knowledge transfer to the players.

"Off the ice, players will be following a regimented individually customized training program focusing on speed, flexibility, agility and core strengthening hockey power circuits" said Kahler.  "A high-performance maintenance program will also be included into the program through sport specific Iron Core Yoga (https://www.ironcoreyoga.com), provided by Francesca to ensure long term skill retention and injury prevention."

Ortepi is not only a Certified Hatha and Vinyasa Yoga Instructor, she is also a Sport/Life & Accountability Coach as well as Natural Nutrition Practitioner which round out her sport resume exceptionally for Raiders brass.  She along with Kahler, will oversee a sports nutrition and hydration program which they say will be "a staple to compliment and preserve all the hard work our players accomplish in gym and on the ice everyday".

"We are truly excited for Coach Kahler & Team Accountability Director Francesca Ortepi-Kahler to join 'The Wexford Raiders Historic Hockey Tradition', said Raiders Ownership.  "Coincidently, Troy played his first 2 seasons of Minor Hockey in the GTA (Greater Toronto Area) wearing a Scarborough Wexford Raiders uniform 35 years ago.  With Kahler back in the Scarborough Ice Gardens at the helm of our franchise as the new our Head Coach & GM, we feel we have truly elevated our program to attract and develop players from around the globe for years to come."

Welcome Home Troy!
